I'm Josh Carney.

At the time of the selection late in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft,

the decision by the Pittsburgh Steelers to grab

Maryland offensive linemen Spencer Anderson was a bit of a throwaway move

overall. That feeling, at least from my vantage point at the time

was due to the great draft the Steelers had had to that point.

Landing guys like Broder Jones,

Joey Porter Jr.

Keanu Benton, Darnell, Washington, and Nick Herbing.

That doesn't even mention Corey Trice Jr.

By the time the Steelers were on the clock at number 251 draft they had put together to that point. Good thing the Steelers didn't let up

inside the war room to close out the draft. Landing Anderson late in the seventh round

has proven to be quite a find and an overall steel for the Steelers, at least so far.

Throughout training camp in the preseason, Anderson has been a bright spot along the offensive line. In training camp, Anderson saw reps at left

guard, center, right guard, and right tackle, working his way up the depth chart under

offensive line coach Pat Meyer.

In preseason games, Anderson continued to show that versatility overall.

Getting work at the same four positions again, impressing on tape throughout the pre-season in 109 snaps.

Now, he has the look of not only a roster lock, but a guy that will get hats on game days due to his versatility.

What a rise he's been on since the draft.

That's a testament not only to Anderson himself in his overall work ethic and development,
