I know that the Pittsburgh Steelers signing Long-Snapper Rex Sunahara last week is not the roster move of the century, but it actually illustrates an important point.

GM Omar Khan wants competition on the entire roster that's 1 through 90. That's been the mission of the

off season adding depth and guys to battle as he churns the bottom half of the roster.

Hoont is a guy who could use the push.

He struggled last year to snap consistently and graded out as one of the league's worst

long snappers.

Presley Harvin bailed him out a couple of times.

He's a hard worker, don't get me wrong, but everyone benefits by feeling the heat at least a little

bit.

There can be comfort that comes in complacency.

Last year Pittsburgh did little to nudge Presley-Harvin or Coons, now both

have someone in camp next to them. But it tracks across the entire roster from left tackle to inside linebacker to

cornerback and beyond. There's not a spot that truly feels totally settled

top to bottom. Not only does that of course protect against injury that'll amp up what training

camp means and bring the best out in everyone the ideal way to build an off season

90 and that should make for a difficult cut-down day.
