Getting near the end of June and until the Steelers report for training camp in late July,

the new cycle should be relatively quiet.

If there is one thing to watch, it's whether or not the team can reach a contract extension

with Alex Highsmith before camp starts up.

There's reason to believe it will happen and reason to believe it won't though

ultimately it's likely he has a new deal before week one. For White might happen. Last year

Omar Khan showed an aggressiveness in getting deals wrapped up, a contrast to Kevin Colbert who was more content to let them drag on.

Khan Inc. Meek of its Patrick in the middle of June and got kicker Chris Boswell and wide receiver

Deonti Johnson's deals done early in camp. In a recent interview, Kahn described

his negotiations as short without a lot of the BS games team sometimes play. So that's a big reason for thinking

a deal will quickly materialize. So why might it not happen? Fitzpatrick was a top of the market

guy with a clear floor to his deal and

TJ Watts negotiation over guarantees beyond year one made this one a lot

smoother the back and forth was taken care of the year prior.

Highsmith's deal won't make him the highest paid pass rushure in the league or even

on his own team.

That can make everyone agreeing on a number that much harder, let alone all the details in structure and payout typical of a deal.

Highsmith just watched Watt go through his hold-in, get paid, and then go out and tie the

NFL sack record.

He knows he can wait. A deal does not have to be struck prior to him
