Though it's been reported for several days now on Tuesday, longtime Pittsburgh Steeler Scout Mark Gorsick announced he's stepping down from his role with the organization. Don't call the retirement he still wants to be around football, he says, but he won't be working for the Steelers or for the NFL anymore.

For many who know the name, the only impact will be a different field for next year's 40-yard

Gorsik was the man who ran it for years in his good cop, bad cop nature, good cop to the

prospects, bad cop to any fan or production member who might have gotten in the way made him a household name.

He spent 28 years with the Steelers working as an area scout hitting the trail each

march to attend pro days and check out the class's top names. Of course, being a scout is a year-round, job hitting up schools in the summer and the fall when the season officially kicks off. But Gorsik is a true Pittsburgh lifer born just south of the city.

Gorsk served as the GM of the Arena League Pittsburgh Gladiators all the way back in 1987.

Pretty cool. Now Gorsik is hanging up his Steelers whistle. He was part of a thankless job.

Being an Area Scout is fun to think about finding the next great

NFL player, but it is a tough life. Long days, late nights, and he can probably offer a perfect

review for every holiday in down in the south.

But Gorsik did his job and did it well, part of some great Pittsburgh draft classes.
