I'm Melanie Freelander. The Steelers have signed another of their own free agents,

reportedly agreed to terms with fifth-year tight-end Zach Gentry,

who held the number two spot on the depth

chart behind Pat Freermouth last season. This is good news for fans of the

tight ends entertaining grillin and chillin episodes. But what does it mean for the

Steelers when it comes to drafting a tight end next month?

Ginger received a one-year deal.

While the details are not yet available, Dave Bryan did a fantastic job breaking down the likely numbers

in a post on Steelers Depot.com yesterday, and I recommend checking it out.

The bottom line is that Gentry's guaranteed money

may be the minimum due to a veteran player.

If that's the case, it would not cost the team much

to include Gentry and the cuts on the way to the final 53 men roster.

So money isn't really the issue in the decision to draft another tight end who may be an upgrade.
