I'm Josh Carney. Entering the start of the 2023 NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis,

excitement was high among Steelers media members due to the fact that GM Omar Khan was

slated to speak to reporters for the first time since last August.

While expectations were he wouldn't give much information in the way of free agency and draft plans for the Steelers,

the hope was that Khan would reveal something, anything worthwhile on Tuesday. Boy, did he ever.

Speaking highly of backup quarterback Mitch Trebisky Tuesday,

Kahn stated that the Steelers love having the veteran around

and would like to have him around long term.

Long term.

Well then, could a potential extension with Trebiski beyond the horizon

lowering his 2022-based salary down from 8 million to something

more manageable in 2023 and beyond, that largely seems unlikely as Trebisci might want to get another

shot elsewhere to compete for a starting job

after his contract with the Steelers is up after the 2023 season.

Hypothetically though, what if Tribiski is open to an extension? Would that be wise for the Steelers? I ask, why not? A former

high pedigree guy who has experience in the offense is highly regarded in the locker room off the field,

and works very well with the starter in front of him.

What's not to like there?

Honestly.

There's every reason possible for the Steelers to pursue an extension with Tribisky.

Question is, would Tribisky want that?
