Dave and I have gone to great lengths to discuss cornerback Cam Sutton's market value,

a pending free agent looking to cash in after a career year.

And I've been open about struggling to justify a $13,14 million average yearly value.

I don't dispute the math in the white corners get paid, especially when they can test the open market,

but I've wrestled with the idea of if he's worth that much.

I'm a big sudden fan and his game has grown, but that's monster money.

So maybe I'm just trying to convince myself of this, but could he take less than we expect

than what the market made demand? The Steelers, they have this way of being able to re-sign guys

for less than we think. Even Sutton's initial extension with the team

came in at a lower number than I thought.

I know it was structured a bit differently

with voidable years thanks to the COVID cap crunch,

but he's far from the only example. Years ago, Ramon Foster got a super cheap deal to stay with the Steelers. Of course, Stars still get paid like Stars. Ben, A B, Watt Fitzpatrick. But De Auntie Johnson signed what was viewed as a pretty team-friendly deal last summer.

Something about that Steelers way that makes guys buy in and take a little less.

The stories of past players who left and regretted it chasing money over stability, and the Steelers argument always is they do an exceptional job of committing and fully paying out their contracts.
