I'm a little late to respond to the thought, but hey, it's the off season and suddenly we have nothing but time.

There's this notion even from local media that the Steelers need to bring in competition for

kicker Chris Boswell this off season.

Statistically it was a down year making just 71% of his kicks down 90% last year in the

second worst of his career.

But context, as always is important.

He battled a groin injury and though Boz recently said the injury was not the cause for his

misses, he said his time injured and away from kicking was, so it's really one and the same.

There was also a block against Baltimore which skews the numbers

a tad and Long-Snapper Christian Kuhn struggled. If anyone should have competition, it's him, not Boswell.

Boswell was still money from 50 plus yards going 7 of 9.

Over the last two years he's 15 of 18 from that distance.

That's a better percentage than Justin Tucker.

It's clear the injury played a role this year and there is no reason to panic.

The team stuck by him in 2018 and they should do it again.

Competition is not needed.

Yeah, maybe another leg gets brought in the Sam Sloeman type, that's fine. But specialists are a bit fragile and adding serious

competition is only going to mess with Boswell's head. It's not like whoever they would bring in is really going to take his week one job.

Punter Presley Harvan got better this year for a variety of reasons,

but the team showing confidence by not having him compete for a job this summer helped his psyche.
