I'm Dave Bryan.

With the 2022 regular season now over and done with for the Pittsburgh Steelers,

I thought I would use today's terrible take to talk about one young player who really surprised me this past season.

That young player is none other than tight-in Connor Hayward, who was selected by the team in the

six round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Michigan State.

Look, I think most of us saw the selection of Hayward coming ahead of the 2022 NFL draft and for obvious reasons.

That said, the fact that Hayward was able to contribute in the ways that he did during his

2022 rookie season is what really deserves some recognition here.

For starters, Hayward dressed and played in all 17 games for the Steelers in 2022,

and that in and of itself is an impressive feat for a six-round draft pick.

Hayward logged 284 special team snaps in 2022,

and that tied him with running back Benny Snell Jr.

for the second most on the team

and just behind co-leaders,

Fullback Derek Watt and Safety Miles Kilbrue.
