I'm Alex Kizora. In what's supposed to be a quiet time right off the NFL draft,

the Pittsburgh Steelers have made lots of noise in the day since. Tuesday's headlines were loudest

with where the team was placing an unrestricted tender on quarterback Aaron Rogers,

a rare move for any team to put on any player and may be unprecedented for someone in Rogers' position,

a future Hall of Fame quarterback who will make 15 million or more should he return.

So what does it mean?

Largely it does seem procedural.

Pittsburgh, with a cover-your-but move to put the tender on him to recoup a comp pick

in the unlikely event he signed somewhere else.

But is there more to it?

That's hard to know.

Maybe it's the chance to put some form of contract in front of Rogers to take the first step in getting the ball rolling.

Maybe a signal from Pittsburgh that we're going to make some moves while we wait on you.

Roger's reaction to this is worth exploring even though we don't know it, at least not yet.

The Steelers reportedly gave him a

heads up this was coming, but that does not automatically mean Rogers likes or appreciates

the decision. It's not when Pittsburgh was obligated to make. And it does put some level of

restriction on Rogers. If he's unsigned by camp, he can only sign with Pittsburgh, something

he's not fond of in general. I'm not saying that means he won't come back, but I would

love to hear Roger's thoughts on the matter. Someday, I'm sure he'll share them. Even as repetitive

as the new cycle has been with him and the team,
