It was a special moment late on day three,

seeing Navy running back and wide receiver, Eli Hydenreich, a Pittsburgh native, getting his

draft moment on stage, joining the Pittsburgh Steelers as the number 230th overall pick in the

26 NFL draft. It was a fitting cap to a great week in the Steel City, and is a moment that will live on

a long, long time. But Heidenreich is more than just a feel-good moment. Sure, he's a seventh-round

pick with an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster ahead, but he's a tremendous athlete,

with that coveted versatility that new head coach Mike McCarthy continues to talk about.

Heidenreichs a football player first, as he stated Saturday in his introductory press conference,

and he's going to do whatever is asked of him on the field, just like he did at Navy.

Whether that's working as a running back, a slot receiver, or carving out a role on special teams,

Heidenreich is going to attack it. He has great athleticism and testing numbers, which shows he

belongs on an NFL field. And he has some pretty darn good tape at Navy, too. The Steelers did well

to create that lasting moment for the Mount Lebanon product and one of the best Pittsburgh area high school football players of his era.
