Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy spoke glowingly about wanting big-bodied targets as past catchers.

Shortly after those comments, the Post-Cazette's Jerry Dulac had an interesting nugget in his chat with readers,

stating the Steelers are intrigued by

Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq. On the surface, that type of interest makes some sense. The

Steelers need more passing game weapons, and Sadiq is versatile enough to move around and be more

of a big wide receiver than a true in-line tight end. But diving deeper, the Steelers shouldn't even consider going that route at all,

because having three tight ends that can play all at once didn't work out at all in 2025.

And there's no reason to try and do that once again, even with better talent.

Last year with the trade for John O. Smith under former O.C. Arthur Smith, the belief was

the tight end room was a three-headed monster. In Darnell, Washington, Pat Friermouth,

and John O. Smith could be a real problem. They were a real problem, all right, for the Steelers.

Washington emerged as tight end won and was great last season.

But Friermouth was largely non-existent, and Smith was an abject disaster, leading to his release this off-season.

Having three tight ends and a McCarthy scheme won't be easy to work with.

And if the goal is to have

Friermouth more involved in 2026, bringing in another mouth to feed at the position isn't the

best path forward. He's a fun player, but Sadiq doesn't fit in Pittsburgh right now. They just have to

look to last year to see some of the challenges another tight end could present.
