Welcome to The Terrible Take, a daily segment telling Steelers Nation what's on our mind.

I'm Alex Cazora. The Pittsburgh Steelers made big Monday swings

by adding wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and cornerback Jamel Dean. There's value in both,

veterans with good and strong resumes. Pittman is reliable, over the middle, and Dean physical

and willing to challenge top wide receivers.

But for a Steelers roster with an age problem, it's an old group, the start of free agency

feels like a mischance to truly get younger, to target free agents on second contracts,

those who are 25 or 26. Pittsburgh went a little older with Pittman, who's turning 29, and Dean, who will be 30 mid-season.

For skill positions, like receiver and corner, that concern is heightened and accelerated by

Dean's repeated injuries. He's never made it through a full year without missing multiple games.

Now, I know the team currently has a dozen draft picks

to add youth. We'll see how many they actually make. It probably won't be all 12. But it's more

reason to hang on to as many picks as possible to bring down the age of this roster and add youth,

especially at positions like wide receiver and secondary.

That doesn't make Pittman and Dean bad signings, but they were not my ideal targets in a

free agency pool that offered talent in depth at both spots. I just hope Pittsburgh does not

chase past returns for future production, a key difference when it comes to evaluating
