The Pittsburgh Steelers say they have an identity as a team and especially as an offense,

hard-nosed, physical, tough to play against.

That's especially the case offensively, where they're built around the run game,

having invested heavily in the trenches in recent years.

They've wanted to run the football at will under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

And yet, when they had the chance to Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, they just

went away from it.

In the first half in building a two-score lead, the Steelers ran the football 15 times for 81 yards,

averaging a nice 5.4 yards per tote. They seemingly had the

Packers on their heels with the run game. Jalen Warren was carving the Packers up, and even Kenneth

Gainwell was ripping off some chunk runs. With the lead and getting the football to start the

second half, it seemed like things were lining up perfectly for the Steelers to impose their will,

particularly in the run game.

They had the lead, the run game was working, and they were getting possession again coming out of the half.

It was all there for the Steelers, and then they just abandoned the run. In the second half, Pittsburgh ran the football just three times.

Yes, you heard that right.

Three times. By the time they had back-to-back run plays in the second half, they were trailing 29-19.

That's just simply unacceptable. They have a vision for the style of play they want to have,

and when the vision was clear and aligned Sunday night, they went another direction.

It makes no sense.
