In reality, it'll likely be a lot longer than that.

Pittsburgh could have elected to place Howard on IR during Tuesday's cutdowns but chose not to.

So what's the difference?

Doing so Tuesday would have required the team to use one of its eight two return slots a team can have each regular season.

Waiting until Thursday means the Steelers don't have to declare and take a wait-and-see approach

with who needs those spots most. A fourth-string quarterback is not going to be at the front of that
