T.J. Watt has a lot to live up to with his record-breaking contract extension worth $41 million per season in new money and $108 million in total guarantees.

There are three main reasons why I think Watt should bounce right back into the defensive player of the year conversation and compete for the SAC crown as he so often does.

For one, the players around him are improved, that matters, especially when other teams were

routinely committing two or three players to get hands on Watt or chip him last season.

Alex Hysmith was injured for several games last year,

and his presence on the other side will help. Don't forget how efficient Highsmith is at getting

pressure when healthy. That can flush the quarterback out of the pocket towards Watt, and at the very

least, they won't be able to commit that type of attention to Watt like they were last year.
