Last season, the Steelers wanted to be a man-coverage

heavy defense, forcing their cornerbacks to live on an island with safety make of Fitzpatrick

back in his single high role. For much of the season, it seemed to work as the Steelers defense

kept a lid on things and took the football away. Then it all dried up. Communication broke down. Cornerbacks struggled

with health and poor play, and the defense had no real answers. Mike Tomlin doesn't believe that

is the case entering the 2025 season, as the Steelers completely reshaped the secondary.

Names like Darius Lay, Brandon Eccles, Jalen Ramsey, and rookie Dante Kent joined the mix.

Tomlin believes those pieces give the Steelers good depth and should allow them to play man coverage against anyone in the NFL.

Based on the play style and the strengths of those pieces added, Tomlin is spot on with his comments to the media Wednesday upon arriving

at training camp. The Steelers got bigger, longer, and more physical this offseason in the

secondary. In a division where they'll have to deal with the likes of Jamar Chase, T. Higgins,

Zay Flowers, Rashad Bateman, and Jerry Judy, Pittsburgh now has the pieces to live in man coverage and trust their
