Steelers' GM, Omar Khan, may have surprised some fans who tuned in for the latest episode of The Standard.

He talked about the team's 2025 seventh-round draft pick, Dante Kent, and his potential to

contribute to the team this year.

Kana had a high praise for the

Rookie Cornerback, describing his extensive pre-draft film study of the player. Kent is certainly

not a lock for the team's 53-man roster. That path will require hard work and probably some luck as well.

At the top of the Steelers' cornerback death chart will be the newly added veteran Darius Slay

and third-year starter Joey Porter Jr. Behind them, Corey Trice and Beanie Bishop, who both

contributed last season, have a strong chance to make the final roster again. The team typically

carries five cornerbacks, so that leaves Kent to compete with Brandon Eccles and James Pierre

for a job.

Kent's primary value coming to camp this year will probably be on special teams.

He was a tackling beast at Central Michigan, and that could certainly win him a role on the

kick-and-punt coverage units. He also served as a punt returner in college.

Wide receiver Calvin Austin III did well in that position last year,

but there isn't really a good backup if he can't go. Then again, the Steelers don't typically give

that job to a defensive player, for reasons nobody really understands. It's a long shot for a

seventh round pick to make the team, but there is certainly a precedent in Pittsburgh in recent years.

Since 2021, only quarterback Chris Oledoken failed to stick around at least for his rookie season.
