While there's plenty of exciting buzz surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers right now,

due to the addition of quarterback Aaron Rogers,

giving them a real shot in the arm this off season,

there is some negative buzz right now with the Steelers.

That's due to the contract situation for T.J. Watt. Despite the long track record of the Steelers. That's due to the contract situation for T.J. Watt.

Despite the long track record of the Steelers taking care of their own players financially,

giving out fair contracts, and making sure that franchise stalwarts stick around long term.

The Steelers, well, they're getting ripped and crushed in the media right now due to their perceived

archaic way of doing business, which has seemingly upset Watt. Watt skipped out on mandatory

minicamp this week, opening himself up to fines for missing the practices, and has generated

a whole storyline about his potential future in the Steel City, as if things are now in question all

a sudden. The Steelers could have taken care of Watt last season, even with two years left on

his deal. They could also have taken care of him earlier in the offseason before the likes of

Miles Garrett and Max Crosby signed huge extensions, resetting the market for pass rushers.

That is all true. But the Steelers didn't.

Historically, they don't. They have a way of going about business. They're not going to change

for one player, even if it might upset that player in the moment. They have done some things

differently this offseason, including the huge extension for DK Metcalf after the trade and waiting around for Aaron Rogers.

They've also said time and time again Watt is a franchise icon and that they want him to be a one-helmet guy.
