Welcome to the Terrible Take, a mini podcast telling Steelers Nation what's on our mind.

0:05.2

I'm Josh Carney. Entering the 2025 NFL draft, defensive line was a major need for the Pittsburgh Steelers,

0:12.9

especially after allowing 299 rushing yards in the wild card round loss to the Baltimore Ravens,

0:18.9

and then cutting Larry Ogun Joby before the start of the

0:21.9

new league year. After adding some depth pieces along the defensive line and free agency, the Steelers

0:27.4

landed the big pieces they needed in the draft with Derek Harmon and Y.A. Black, shoring up the

0:33.4

trenches in a major way, at least for the time being. On Monday, the Steelers then made some

0:39.0

roster cuts that decided to release backup nose tackle Montravius Adams, which was rather

0:43.6

0:49.4

but with defensive line coach Carl Dunbar calling Black a defensive end and stating that he

0:53.5

liked Keanu Benton at the nose, Cutting depth in Adams, that way was rather surprising. And head

1:00.2

1:05.3

versatility. Heck, even Dean Lowry or Daniel Echoale could handle it, assuming they make the team.

1:11.8

But cutting Adams over those guys is surprising and doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now.

1:18.2

Adams wasn't a great run defender, but he had a high motor, was quick off the ball, and could penetrate into the backfield.

1:24.3

He brought some real juices and interior pass rusher too.

1:30.5

But now he's gone, free to latch on with another team. He's just the first larger domino to fall on the defensive line too. They can't keep

1:36.6

everyone. And names like Isaiah Loudermilk, DeMarvin Leal and Logan Lee will be battling for roster spots.

1:45.9

Even Lowry and Echuale, too.

1:49.2

That's what the Steelers should be doing in the end, though.

1:51.9

Like Carl Dunbar said over the weekend,

1:54.6

if you're hungry, go and take your food.
