Kim Hayward is having a great season, and as I wrote Monday, it's better than that. It is historic. For a detackle his age, he has the second most

Saxon NFL history, now only trailing Hall of Famer Steve McMichael. There have been calls for

Hayward to be included

in the defensive player of the year conversation, and I get that. There's no runaway choice this

season, not even T.J. Watt, and Hayward's resume and tape looks as good as anybody's. But I doubt

he's going to win the award. He just does not seem like the guy the voters will have

top of mind, this gritty and powerful detackle, instead of the flashy edge rusher. However,

there is one award he should be the favorite for, comeback player of the year. Remember,

in the wake of Joe Flacco winning it over Damar Hamlin last year, the league tweaked the

awards language to only select someone coming back from injury. No longer is it the, hey, you no longer

suck award. That narrows to feel considerably. Right now, as far as I can tell, the favorites are

Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins, Kyler Murray, DeMarer Hamlin, and Anthony Richardson.

Cousins, he's fading fast.
