Turns out all those questions that generated quite a bit

of attention this offseason about defensive linemen Cameron Hayward of the Pittsburgh Steelers

were what many thought they were. Nonsense. Through the first 12 games of the season, Hayward is

playing some of the best football of his career. Period.

After battling through an injury-filled 20-23 season that sapped his mobility and power,

Hayward got back to full health this offseason and has returned to his dominant ways.

That was never more clear this season than on Sunday in Cincinnati,

as Hayward was outstanding from start to finish for the Steelers. Hayward had five tackles, a tackle for loss, one sack,

and a tipped pass that led to a Dante Jackson interception. He also had five pressures on the day

and is on pace to set a new career high in pressures on the year, which would break the 62

pressures he had in both 2017 and 2020. At 35 years old and at a demanding position along

the defensive line, what Hayward is doing is quite remarkable. He should be in the discussion

for first team all pro this year, and he should undoubtedly be headed to the pro bowl.

He's been one of the best defensive linemen in football, bar none.

Based on how Hayward has been playing this season, it's proving to be quite foolish now and moving forward to question if he can remain a force for the foreseeable future.

He's aging like fine wine and remains a pillar for the Steelers.
