In the days since the trade deadline that saw the Pittsburgh Steelers ad wide receiver Mike Williams and Edge Preston Smith via trades,

the Steelers are being hyped up as a legitimate contender now, not only in the AFC, but for a Super Bowl trophy as well. That's great in all,

considering the Steelers plug some holes on the death chart. But I can't help coming back to this.

They already were Super Bowl contenders before the trade deadline. You are what your record says you are, and the Steelers are

six and two entering week 10 against the Washington commanders. Yes, the schedule gets very

difficult and condensed in the second half of the season, but the Steelers have shown they are a

legitimate team this season. They've won games they were supposed to.

They've blown out some bad opponents along the way,

and they have taken care of business,

stacking wins like they needed to in the first half of the season.

The moves to add Williams and Smith certainly makes them a better team than they were on Tuesday morning.

But those moves didn't push them over the top as contenders because they simply were already there, period. We'll see if they can continue to play well and maintain

that status as a contender and push for a win in the playoffs. Heck, maybe even go on a run to the

Super Bowl. But the perceptive of the Steelers shouldn't have changed that dramatically due to the two smaller trades on Tuesday afternoon.
