Let's talk quarterback development.

A hot button issue this week as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been benched for Joe Flacco,

leaving some to wonder if Richardson will ever get another chance with Indy. There was a tweet going around highlighting all the

high pedigree quarterbacks now riding the pine, including a couple in Pittsburgh. Kenny Pickett,

Justin Fields, of course Richardson, Bryce Young and Carolina starting again, but struggling overall.

First, none of this is new in the NFL.

Quarterbacks have always struggled or busted out that comes true with every class.

It's kind of like economists predicting the next recession.

They might be right, but yeah, they're always doing that.

But the NFL might be showing a change of patience.

Instead of letting a rookie

work through his struggles, replace him with the win now vet. It's a what have you done for me lately

league and jobs are on the line, the coaching staffs and everyone else's. Heavy incentive to turn

to the guy who can win today, not maybe win tomorrow. Still, I think the issue is development gets talked about in two broad

terms, play rookie quarterbacks right away or have them sit for a year. People are often in one of

those two camps. But the real answer is, it's a case-by-case basis. There's no broad brush here. If a guy

is ready to play, play him. If not, don't. I will say the NFL is having an issue of being

shocked by quarterbacks. We know we're raw coming out of college and then struggling early in the

NFL. Richardson is a great example. Health hazard raw out of Florida and everybody knew it. Yet
