For decades, Tom Dempsey held the NFL record for longest field goal connecting from 63 yards way back in 1970.

No one would match it until Jason Elem in 1998 and no one would break it until Matt Prater hit from 64 in 2013.

Now the record is held by Justin Tucker 66 yards in 2021.

The question is, how long will that record hold?

We've already seen Kickers hit 50-plus yarders like ship shots this year, though there was some

regression last week after a red-hot start across the league. Chris Boswell was made four of them from 50 plus and had

the distance on his 62-yarder miss last week pushing just wide right. As kickers get more refined and keep pushing their limits, it feels like only a matter of time before someone hits from 67.

Dallas's Brandon Aubrey hit from 66 yards in the preseason this year and has already made a 65-yarder in the regular season.

There's only two concerns I have. One coaches trusting the situation. Many of those extra bold attempts come at the end of the half or a game when a miss is not really consequential.

Miss from 67 in the middle of the second quarter and the opposing team is literally starting at

midfield that could be a big point swing and you do got to wonder what is the limit

for the human body baseball pitchers aren't really throwing faster than the last five years.

More guys can hit triple digits, but 103, 104 is generally the max.

We're not seeing a steady climb above, say, 105.

The human body can only push so far, and kickers might be the same.

Maybe 66 or 67 is the max that can be done, though maybe it's not.

Maybe we're talking about a 70-yarder. that can be done, though maybe it's not.

Maybe we're talking about a 70-yarder someday.

I'm just confident in saying that Tucker's record won't hold as long as Dempsey's did.
