Welcome to the terrible take, a daily segment telling Steeler Nation what's on our minds.

I'm Melanie Freelander. There has been a lot of discussion about the Steeler's offense

lacking a true wide receiver two throughout the off season and into training camp.

The front office reportedly made multiple offers in an attempt to trade for a

talented pass catcher only to come up short.

And while they drafted Roman Wilson in the third round, it was not clear what he might contribute this year.

And now we'll need to wait longer to find out with the rookie sidelined by an ankle injury and missing crucial practices.

It's encouraging to hear that he is out of his walking boot as of this morning,

but we don't know when he will be back on the field.

Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III have been looking good in team drills,

but neither has yet proven that they

can make up for the loss of Deonti Johnson in terms of production. When looking

at the potential success of the 2024 Steelers in the passing game it may be a

different unit that makes the difference.

And that would be the tight ends.

Pat Freermouth is primed for a significant role in new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's

offense.

And we know what Pat Frei brings in terms of his skill set.

He's a reliable pass catcher and a solid red zone target. But it may be the

development of second-year tight-end Darnell Washington that proves to be the key to the passing game this year.

In his rookie campaign Washington was on the field often but almost always as a blocker.

He has put in extra time in camp to improve those skills,
