Welcome to the terrible take a daily segment telling Steelers nation what's on our mind.

0:05.4

I'm Alex Kazora. I know the Pittsburgh Steelers just held their first and second practices this week

0:11.9

and there's plenty to talk about so please

0:14.3

check out the Daily Camp Recap Podcasts and our written reports but I had to talk about

0:21.0

a different topic because it's a follow-up on a concern I shared before.

0:26.0

Earlier in the summer, I had a terrible take about the NFL allowing players to wear those

0:31.0

guardian caps in-game for additional head and concussion

0:35.4

protection, which is great. However, they're bulky and ugly-looking foam on

0:41.3

top of their helmets are an eyesore and players won't wear something as ugly as it is.

0:47.6

They only wear them in camp because it is mandated.

0:51.5

But Albert Breyer tweeted a photo of the Chargers putting skull caps on top of the

0:56.6

guardian caps with players numbers and the team logo on them. It looked more like

1:01.2

actual helmets. Still not perfect but a whole lot better. And that

1:05.9

matters. Like it or not, these have to be visually appealing to get players to buy in the same

1:11.9

issue with baseball's oversized pitching caps nobody wears.

1:16.0

Now I don't think or expect a bunch of players to go out there all of a sudden and wear these

1:20.6

guardian caps this year, but it's an important step and shows

1:24.3

understanding the NFL knows these have to look right if you want players to

1:29.0

actually wear them. Of course the league could mandate them down the road. Maybe that's inevitable. But for now, again, I was encouraged to see at least one team try to sell these caps in a way that players will want to wear them and ultimately protect their body a little bit more.
