It was expected that veteran linebacker Cole Holcomb would land on the active

PUP list to open training camp for the Steelers, considering the devastating knee injury he suffered in week 9 of the 2023 season that ended his year prematurely.

What wasn't expected though was that he'd be joined by veteran defensive and Dean Lowry who was signed as a free agent.

Nor was it expected that veteran running back and kick return specialist, Cordell Patterson Patterson would land on the non-football injury list due to a hamstring injury suffered during training leading up to camp.

Holcomb and Lowry don't seem all that concerning right now, considering they both had

seizing ending injuries in 2023.

But for me it's hard not to be concerned about Patterson, even with head coach Mike Tomlin stating that he could be considered day to day currently.

Back in June, Patterson stated to reporters that his body was at about a 2 out of 10 in mini camp which was a bit

concerning now he goes and injures his hamstring. Add in the fact that he hasn't really been all that excited about the new kick-off rules and what impact he could have there,

and this all puts a bit of a dark cloud over his spot on the roster for me right now.

Hamstrings can be tricky, and if he's already coming into camp with an issue

chances are once he comes off the NFI

the Steelers will take it slow with him.

Previously I thought Patterson would be a real

special team's weapon and a dark horse weapon in the back field offensively,

considering his ties to new coordinator Arthur Smith. But now I'm very concerned about Patterson overall.

Maybe that's a bit of overreacting. But that's what comes to mind when the news

landed that Patterson would start on the NFI.

It's not a good thing for the veteran entering a new training camp.
