Steelers insider Ray Fittepaldo of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette joined Serious XM's press coverage show over the weekend and said the Knox against

Justin Fields turned out to be true during spring practices. He specifically cited

his accuracy as an issue. I get the Fields has high potential with his athletic profile and

arm strength to push the ball down the field. Very few quarterbacks have those

traits but even fewer can harness their full potential into being a viable NFL passer.

To this point, Fields has not shown he is a viable long-term option through the first three

seasons of his career.

So how much progression can we reasonably expect from fields?

Well, for one, it may be hard to get a read on that if Russell Wilson plays well and holds down the job all season.

But if you look at his first three seasons in Chicago,

there are at least some reasons to worry.

He played under two different coaching regimes

with head coach Matt Naggi,

cubie coach John De Philippo,

and offensive coordinator Bill Lazer as a rookie, then Matt Eberfluce, Andrew Janako and Luke

Getsy for his next two seasons. If the errors in his game were technique related then he had several

different coaches who would have had an opportunity to fix

some of that. Maybe none of those coaches had the right advice for him but we can't

just assume that a change of scenery or a new set of coaches in Pittsburgh will

magically fix him at this stage of his career.
