The Pittsburgh Steelers have a tricky situation along their defensive line.

The Steelers have preferred to stock the shelves with mid-to-late-round draft picks since 2011. They have drafted 14 defensive. the prospects were Hayward, Stephen Tuet, Javon Hargrave, De Marvin Leal, and Kiano Benton.

There's one big outlier in that otherwise stellar group of players,

and that is of course, Lial.

Drafted in the third round of 2022, he was always a bit of a mystery with a tweener body type and an

unimpressive athletic profile to pair with it.

The Steelers played him a bit at outside linebacker out of necessity as a rookie because of

T.J. Watts injury, but with a stalked outside

linebacker room entering 2023, it became clear they wanted to move him back inside along

the defensive line. He reportedly showed up out of shape last off season and even admitted as much in a recent interview with post-Gazette sports.

He also talked about how he has been focusing on technique this off season and how that was his downfall last year.

He was a game day inactive for five of the last was his downfall last year.

with Isaiah Loudermill, getting a helmet over him.

It has been nothing short of disappointing for an otherwise stellar track record at the position over the first two days of the draft.

Is Lealle even going to make the 53-man roster at this point?

The Steelers have carried seven defensive linemen in the last two seasons on the initial 53, Cameron Hayward,

Keanu Benton, Larry Ogan Joby, Dean Lowry, and Montravius Adams

are more or less locks to make the roster, so that leaves two spots for Liao,

Lauter Milk, Logan Lee, Jonathan Marshall, and Jacob Slade to compete for it.
