It certainly would have been nice to see a Bud Dupree reunion with the Pittsburgh Steelers,

but ultimately his price tag was much more than

the Steelers were going to be able to afford for a fourth outside linebacker. So off the

Los Angeles big bud goes. The attention the news generated late last week about Dupree talking

with the Steelers regarding a reunion got me thinking though. Why not just do a reunion with

Marcus Golden? Golden spent the 2023 season with the Steelers as the number four outside

linebacker behind TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbing. And he did quite well

in that role. He played just 230 snaps defensively, but he showed he still has a lot of good football left.

Golden recorded three sacks and 13 pressures on the season, and was an impactful player down the stretch for the Steelers.

Most importantly, he'd be cheap too.

He knows the defense, has a great working relationship with the trio in the outside

linebacker's room and has fully accepted a backseat role in the NFL at this point in

his career. He even played some special teams last season too.

Would But Dupree have been able to do that?

That's not a knock on the former Steelers' first rounder either.

It's just that he hasn't done that yet

and hasn't truly accepted that limited role in the NFL that might suit him better at this point in his career.

Golden has, and he's beloved in the Steelers locker room.

Outside linebacker 4 isn't as important now as it was entering last season

now that Herbig is experienced and established.
