There have now been multiple occasions throughout this off season where Justin Fields has taken harsh criticism on his potential as an NFL starting quarterback.

There's no denying that he has some rare mobility and can extend

and create plays with his legs.

He also has great arm talent and can push the ball down the field.

But being a successful quarterback is about so much more

than just the physical traits.

First, it was Greg Cosell, the longtime NFL films producer

that chimed in a couple months ago,

saying that Fields doesn't see the field properly and that may never change.

Then more recently, Tyler Dunn posted a piece about the circumstances that led to the Chicago Bears

selecting Caleb Williams with the first pick in the draft this year. The first part of the series was

focused heavily on Justin Fields and much of it was discussing his shortcomings as a quarterback.

An unnamed former coach of his in Chicago said that his eyes are all over the place, specifically saying that he tries to see everything and in turn sees nothing.

Quarterbacks are meant to go through progression so they have some logical path that their eyes should follow.

The assertion here is that he doesn't really

go through his progressions and his eyes dart around the field at random. The former coach

also noted that the quarterbacks rarely make huge improvements in this area. You either have the mental processing capabilities or you don't.

While Justin Field's stats improve slightly year over year as a passer,

he never made a big leap to suggest he can be a franchise quarterback.
