I'm Josh Carney.

The decision to decline the fifth year option of running back Naji Harris, despite his

dependability and durability, was rather surprising.

And for me, quite frankly, irritating.

Irritating in the sense that all it has done is create speculation that the veteran running back is all of a sudden going to become a malcontent in the locker room.

I know that Harris has been a bit snippy with the media at times and doesn't give off a great sense of having a welcoming personality in those sessions.

But by all accounts from teammates and connected media members and even former coaches, Harris

is a great guy and isn't going to let a financial situation affect his mood or his work ethic on and off the field.

In fact, Harris put some of that to rest on Monday, showing up to to voluntary and I can't emphasize that enough voluntary

workouts at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the south side.

He even flexed for the camera and seemed to be his normal self, even with the noise surrounding

him in his future in question.

That noise is what it is, outside noise.

Harris isn't going to all of a sudden s sulk not put in the work for the

Steelers, potentially balloon up from a weight standpoint and wreck his career.

In fact I think he's going to go the other way, outwork everyone, even that much more, shed some weight

and put together the best season of his career to prove a point not only for himself, but also

the running pack position overall too.

I feel very comfortable banking on that.

Rather than being anything close to concerned about him potentially becoming some sort of malcontent.

It's just not who Naji Harris is or ever was.
