A few days ago, the deadline for picking up the fifth round option on running back Nodgy Harris

came and went and the Steelers passed on the option.

This means that the former first round pick will enter the fourth and final year of his rookie contract

in 2024.

He is set to become a free agent after this season.

That doesn't automatically mean that Harris will leave Pittsburgh

the following year.

It's entirely possible that the team could sign him

to an extension prior to the start of this season.

Since the team doesn't negotiate contracts during the season, we will have

our answer by the time week one kicks off. While it came as a surprise to most of us that the team

chose not to lock in their starting Russia for an extra year for less than $7 million, it is understandable.

And is not personal.

The team loves Naji and what's not to love.

He's been everything they thought they were getting when they drafted him.

No, he's not the King of explosive plays, but that's not who he was in college either.

He has a career successful run rate of over 47%.

Despite injuries, he has never missed a game.

And he's solid in past protection.

The rumors that the team wanted to wait and see
