The selection of North Carolina State linebacker Peyton Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft has drawn some rave reviews for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

By all accounts the Steelers got the next great linebacker, one with freakish

athleticism, great tape and great size.

He's drawn some comparisons to future Hall of Fame linebacker Lou Kiekley, too.

That's all well and good.

On the flip side, though, there's a lot of concern with Wilson and his health.

It's well documented that he's had two major knee injuries, has no ACL in one of his knees,

and had a major shoulder operation during his time in college.

22 teams believed that Wilson is just a one contract player,

which is why he fell in the draft.

But NFL network analyst Daniel Jeremiah raised a great point Monday on the Pat McAfee show that

peaked my interest.

Who cares if Wilson is a one contract player if you can get three good years out of them?

The average NFL lifespan is roughly three seasons.

So should we be truly worrying about a player picked at number 98 overall

getting a second contract right now? I lean towards probably not. Sure it would be

nice to hit on a third round pick like Wilson at number 98 overall and have him on a second contract.

But things move so quickly in the NFL landscape that looking four to five years ahead really can't be done, especially outside of first or second round picks.
