I'm Alex Kazora.

The NFL has found a new approach.

0:09.6

In past years most trades were pretty simple.

0:12.2

Player for Pick, it was a selection in the upcoming

0:15.5

NFL draft. This year's player for this year's pick, meaning a trade would look like Player

0:20.6

X for Y pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

That approach though has slowly been shifting in recent years

0:27.8

before ramping up in the high gear this off season.

0:34.4

probably prefer it that way, but it is becoming the norm. I like to call it the

0:38.6

creative financing of NFL trades, the loan approach, in a sense, terms of 12 to 36 months may apply.

0:45.2

It's happened with Pittsburgh as part of the Kenny Pickett deal, the Steelers received a pair of 2025

0:50.4

seventh round picks from Philadelphia. In Justin Fields was had for next year's 6 round pick that could become a 4.

0:57.2

Around the league it's becoming a fixture.

0:59.4

Staphon digs a 2025 second to son Reddick to the Jets, a 2026 conditional pickable two years from now.

1:14.0

2025 third rounder really feels and acts like a fourth. Getting return on your

1:19.0

investment is longer the exact draft pick unclear and heck there are some front offices who might get

1:23.9

fired and replaced by then leaving that future pick for the next regime but this

1:28.9

damn has been broken the NFL has adopted an NBA model of acquiring picks. They'll get theirs eventually and that's here to stay
