The Steelers showed some promise late in the season offensively after firing offensive coordinator Matt Canada,

turning to interim coordinator Eddie Faulkner and interim play caller Mike Sullivan.

Though that success down the stretch was much needed as the Steelers made a run to the playoffs. It also created some serious fears

that the Steelers would just internally promote, one of Faulkner or Sullivan into the full-time

offensive coordinator role moving forward.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin put the kibosh on that Thursday

with his year-end press conference, stating that he's looking at outside

candidates to be the next offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh.

You hear that sound?

That's the sound of the entire city of Pittsburgh breathing a sigh of relief.

Rightfully so.

Yes, the Steelers showed some improvements down to stretch offensively under Faulkner and Sullivan.

But it wasn't enough to warrant them being promoted to the full-time gig.

Tomlin very obviously sees that, which is encouraging.

The Steelers need a fresh outlook offensively, and you only get that from an external

candidate.

Who those candidates are will reveal themselves in the

coming weeks ahead, but make no mistake about it. Tomlin's comments Thursday

about needing an outside perspective and looking outside of the organization to fill that

role was a very positive much-needed step in the right direction for the Steelers
