Listeners, I know there is a big segment of the true crime fandom that is really in deserial killers.

Sorry, friends, but I'm not one of them.

When it comes to true crime, my interest lies in the mystery inside of the story,

in the cold cases that wait for someone to pay them some attention,

for someone to finally speak up.

I enjoy exploring the realm of what really happened here,

which when a serial killer is identified, arrested and brought to trial, that mystery is lost.

Serial killers tend to be men, most often white men.

I believe that only about 20% of the known serial killers are black males,

like the perpetrator we're discussing today.

I haven't covered many serial killers.

John Norman Collins, who allegedly murdered several women in Michigan and in California in the late 60s,

he's one of them.

His case was well known to me because my mother had a bit of a preoccupation with him,

as she was college age at the time he was thought to be murdering women

near the campus of Eastern Michigan University.

Then there is Donald Miller, who killed several women,

including his former fiancée in the East Lansing area, before being apprehended.
