It's just after 3am in Salt Lake City and a young woman steps out of a lift into the darkness of a quiet park.

She tells the driver she's meeting someone and then she walks towards a waiting car.

She gets in the car and it drives away.

But after that moment, there are no calls, no texts, no trace of the young woman. It was 16 days

later that the horrifying truth would be revealed. This is Red Rum, stories about the true victims of crime.

an episode. Our case today starts with this young woman, 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck. She's

from California and is super close with her family.

In 2019, when our case begins, she's a student at the University of Utah and she's studying

kinesiology and pre-nursing. She's on track to graduate next year in 2020 and after that,

she would go on to nursing school and have a career

in healthcare, which is exactly what she wanted to do. And McKenzie is a busy woman. She's studying.

She's also working in her spare time at this biological testing lab. And she's part of a sorority as well.

So she has this very good group of friends she's

really living that classic college life it's on june 10th of 2019 that mackenzie gets some devastating

news her grandmother has passed away and she's told that the funeral is going to be five days later on June 15th.

So Mackenzie heads back to California. She attends the funeral and on the 16th of June she boards a flight home to, well, university home of Salt Lake City.

And it's an overnight flight. She lands back a little after

1.30am. Now most people who arrive home, especially after that sort of late flight that time,

they're going to want to get back to their apartment or their house, probably ASAP. But that's

not the case with McKenzie. Instead, she waits. And even to this

day, it's actually not clear why she waits. We just know that she does. It's then at 240 a.m.
