The... The Twilight Zone that we'll be discussing tonight is one of those episodes that never tops best of lists.

It doesn't really show on worst of lists either it hasn't really entered

pop culture like the episodes with the most memorable twists it is pretty much one of

those twilight zones that sits somewhere in the middle.

The book Unlocking the Door to a Television Classic by Martin Graham's Jr.

We usually have a wide array of trivia and background about an episode, but in this case

there's not a great deal about the production or the actors or the public's response to it

Mark Zickri in the Twilight Zone companion calls it competently written but lacking dramatic punch

but he does say it's entertaining so all in all on the surface it seems to be

maybe one of the good, but more middle of the road twilight zones.

But if examining rod-sirling's work has taught us anything, it's that

very rarely is it just about what's going on on the surface.

When I started digging on this one,

I really did end up going down the rabbit hole.

And this middling episode of the Twilight Zone

was just the tip of the iceberg.
