Summary
In 1782 the combined forces of the British Army, its Indian allies, and Canadian Rangers, totaling over 500 men, on orders to wipe out all the colonists east of the Alleghenies between Quebec and Kentucky, executed a series of attacks on colonial settlements in Kentuicky, committing mass murder, depredations, and kidnapping of the men, women, and children of two entire settlements, Ruddle's station and Martin's Station. Their next target was Bryan;'s Station. The heroism of the men, and especially the women of that settlement prompted the DAR to erect a memorial on the site of that settlement's fort in 1896 to honor all who fought there against overwhelming odds. This is the story of early Kentucky and the brave settlers who fought Indians, British, and French for decades to preserve freedom in early America.
