Each week on the BBC World Service, I look at one of the biggest issues in the news.

This time, it's the storming of the US Capitol, a year on.

Take that house, take it now!

You remember when you first saw the pictures, crowds pouring up the steps of the Capitol

into the seat of US democracy.

These writers wanted to stop the certification of Joe Biden's victory in the US election,

and they'd been listening to the man he defeated.

I believe Donald Trump, I believe the selection was stolen by Joe Biden and armed.

He pushed that way.

His Democratic friends.

President Trump himself had made this case after he'd lost the election in November 2020.

This is a case where they're trying to steal an election.

They're trying to rig an election.

And we can't let that happen.

Now, unless there's any doubt, this isn't true.

There's no evidence of widespread electoral fraud, but a lack of evidence wasn't stopping

the president and his supporters.

And on January 6th, Mr. Trump said this to his supporters.

And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going

to have a country anymore.

In the minutes and hours that followed, some of the president's supporters did just that.
