Why is it that a 2,000 year old philosophy suddenly becomes massively popular, selling tens of millions of books,

and garnering millions of adherents around the world in the age of social media?

Why, when made more aware of the problems of the world,

do people seem to be more apathetic than ever? And what keeps the world's most

prominent stoic up at night? These are just a few of the questions that we're going to be

touching upon in today's episode with my good old friend Ryan Holliday. Ryan Holliday is a 10-time

best-selling author, marketing genius, and founder of the Daily Stoic brand.

He is single-handedly brought a school of ancient Greek philosophy to millions of new people around the world.

He's been so successful at marketing the philosophy that his name has become almost synonymous with it.

It's interesting because my books have often been compared to stoicism and people often mistakenly

assume that my background is stoic philosophy and I'm pretty sure that's Ryan's fault. So thank you Ryan.

This episode was fun for two different reasons. One is that I visited Ryan down in Texas and we shot this in his beautiful studio. We actually recorded two

podcasts. I was on his show The Daily Stoic Podcast and the morning and then we

recorded this episode in the afternoon. By the way that episode I did with Ryan is also out today on his

known Ryan for about 10 years and he and I have an easy rapport with each other.
