Hello, welcome to another episode of The Weeds on the Vox Media Podcast Network on

Matthew Glacias. Here today, as we climb, Sarah Cliff is not Tuesday. It is Wednesday.

Here because we wanted to watch the State of the Union Tuesday night before we could tell you

what the real State of the Union is. It's amazing.

Let's get this out of the way. State of the Union, he did what they said he would do,

which is he offered a pretty normal State of the Union speech. He read off of the teleprompter.

It was reasonably competently done in its atmosphere. I think what was interesting about it from

The Weeds Perspective is usually when you're looking at a president's first real State of the

Union, because tactically, the one when they come when they do this speech right after getting

into office, it's not a State of the Union. It's just an address to Congress. But so this was

his first real State of the Union. They really use that opportunity to unveil their second

year agenda. The first year is its push. They're getting through some of the big pieces of policy.

They pushed on the campaign and that was true for Donald Trump. They did Obamacare repeal

under place and that they don't work out. They did tax reform and that did work out.
