Summary

The Cheney Mansion in Jerseyville, Illinois, didn’t start out as a stately mansion. Its history traces back to 1827, when it was known as the Red House. It was the area’s first frame house with two rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs. Over the years, it was not only a home but a stagecoach stop, a tavern, a doctor’s office, and a bank, and it even had a cistern that hid slaves searching for freedom on the Underground Railroad.

Over the years, the small Red House went from four rooms to a sprawling mansion of more than 12,000 square feet. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, the home is in remarkable condition. This might explain why some former residents still remain in the home. Several spirits seem to still reside in the Cheney Mansion, including a former owner, P.D. Cheney himself. But he’s not alone.

0:12.0	We have surveillance cameras in the house. I have 16 cameras throughout the house,
0:17.0	where the main room where you come in, what we call the sunroom,
0:21.0	that it's the only new room on the house that we built it on the back of the house.
0:26.0	And that's kind of ground zero, it's our team room. That's where people come in
0:30.0	and have their equipment put up, and we have furniture in here, tables and chairs,
0:34.0	you know, nice chairs and couches, and that's where the teams gather,
0:39.0	and if they take their breaks throughout the night,
0:41.0	but they can sit here and watch the entire house.
0:43.0	A lot of teams wind up the last couple hours of their investigation
0:48.0	just sitting there watching the cameras.
0:50.0	They kind of make lazy ghost hunters out of here,
0:52.0	but I've got them on right now that's watching the house,
0:55.0	but it's quite interesting to see what kind of response we get from our hunters on it.
1:02.0	And we actually, our hard drives were able to plug in SD cards,
1:06.0	and for $25, we offer the groups we can back them up and download their entire investigation.
1:14.0	Oh, that's a great idea.
1:17.0	Yeah, yeah, most people take it in, they really like that.
1:21.0	And for you, with someone who's interested in the paranormal field,
1:26.0	anyway, I would think watching those videos would be kind of addictive.
