Did Charles Spurgeon say this? The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which the child of God

rests his head at night, giving perfect peace.

Charles Spurgeon is quoted as saying those words I just read to you,

but in reality, as we're going to see, that's not actually what Spurgeon said.

However, the truth that Spurgeon captured is glorious,

is greatly needed among the people of God today.

rework it and touch it up just a little bit, refine it, shorten it in places. And then it was

pitched back to the church and it has gone into the evangelical bloodstream, particularly in a

social media age. And lots of people have cited just that sentence.

There's just one problem.

That's not exactly what Spurgeon said.

So what I'm doing today on this episode of Grace and Truth is putting back on my Charles

Spurgeon truth seeker hat that I had more recently when I critiqued those who said that Charles Spurgeon

said, of two evils choose neither worth reference to politics, as I tried to show. Spurgeon

wasn't thinking about politics or candidates or anything like that when he said that sentence

today. Again, the hat is back on and and we're considering another Spurgeon sentence,

and we're actually not just going to see what Spurgeon actually said, but we are going to see

that Spurgeon was driving us at an absolutely glorious truth that Christians often struggle

to understand and apply. So here's the reality of this episode. You ready?
