Small, narrow, two-lane highways with log trucks in front of us.

It's cars behind us that are flashing their brides trying to get around the line of traffic. But I'm in no hurry. I'm in no

hurry. Because this is the land that I love to see. I love to see it at eye level. I love to see

hay fields which are soft enough to sleep in. I love to see barns that are barely standing upright.

I love to see the remnants of old chimneys and abandoned acreage.

I love to see old brick structures which are swollen in vines and homes that are a little bit

lopsided. I like to see porches that are well used. Portures with sofas on the fronts,

rocking chairs or even deep freezers. Maybe putting a deep freeze on the porch sounds trashy to you. It's a good thing it's not your porch. I like to drive and I like to see the life that peppers this part of the world. There's a dog. He's walking the shoulder.

He doesn't seem to have a place to go. He's just trotting along. In the city, you must keep your

dogs on a leash, but out here it's okay. It's okay to let them just wander. A pass low-lying

bridges over creek switch which snake through the woods and the long-leaf pines

and there's a bicycle
