Well, six years ago, when my wife and I moved here to Washington DC,

I was able to meet with the chief and staff of a senator.

And so I put on my suit, went up to his office, and met with him.

And I asked him a completely unqualified question.

I just said, how can we serve your people?

And in the midst of that broad question, I remember he paused for a minute,

and then he responded, no one knows how to date.

He said, I'm surrounded by attractive, talented, successful people

whose relational lives are a mess.

He said, even the married ones, their marriages are so fragile are in jeopardy.

He said, will you talk about the subject of dating?

You know, it's fascinating.

I've been reading a lot, church, about your sex life over the break.

Not you personally, but your generation, primarily millennials,

lots of books on stats.

And I think this won't be a surprising message to you to hear that the data is depressing.

It's the state of modern romance in dating and marriage is in many ways sad.
