Kevin, thank you for making this episode possible.

Welcome to Bible stories. We are your hosts Matt. Hello. Hey Matt. My name's Todd. We're two ministers slash buds who love the stories of the

0:39.7

Bible. And we got another one for you guys. This is a summer slam summer story. It's going to be a great one. You guys ready for it? Can't wait. We we are going to open up Matt with a parable by Jesus himself. And this is found in Matthew 7, right?

1:00.7

Matthew 7. And this is a short parable, but it's packed with a lot of important stuff. And one overarching thought that I think that we we always need to be reminded of and turn to.

1:14.7

And so Matt, this is Jesus sharing a story, sharing a parable, right? And we'll talk about what it means after. But let me just read it. You ready for this? The theme is this that you should build your house on the rock.

1:28.7

You ready? In five, four, three, two. Here we go. Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

1:45.7

Because the rain is going to fall and the floods are going to come and the winds are going to blow and beat on that house. But it will not fall because it was founded on the rock.

1:58.7

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

2:08.7

Because guess what? The rain is going to fall and the floods will come and the winds will blow and beat against that house. And it's going to fall and great will be the fall of that house.

2:23.7

So Jesus is saying we should build houses upon rocks and not build them on sand. Sand gives away.

2:37.7

Matt, help me with this is Jesus. You know, we know that he's a carpenter. So we know that he has some construction mindset.

2:46.7

He obviously was handy and new to work with his hands. So was this just basically like a construction talk, like a little like, hey guys come in here real quick.

2:58.7

Just a little little heads up as you're going throughout life when you consider building a house here are just some basics to building a house. Or was there more to that? Like is he actually speak? Is there a spiritual thing that he's bringing up here? Is he saying more than just, hey, you know,

3:14.7

as you're thinking about building that three to make sure you got a good foundation. I feel like maybe he's saying more. So I'm going to throw it to you and then we'll just we'll just chat a little bit about it.

3:24.7

Okay. Well, that's what's so special about parables is sometimes when Jesus shares a parable, you know, a lot of times it's funny because it's a lot of it's hyperbole, right?

3:38.7

So it's the idea of like a camel passing through the eye of a needle. It's easier for a camel passing the eye of a needle than a rich person to enter into the kingdom of God.

3:48.7

And when you say that, well, I know how big the eye of a needle is. I know how big a camel is. That's funny to me because you just can't do it.

3:58.7

So here, less funny and more shock value, like who's going to build their house in the sand? Clearly, one of these things is better than the others.

4:09.7

And building your house upon the rock a solid foundation is what any normal functioning adult in that society would have said, of course, you know, that there is no other option. That is the only way to go.

4:24.7

So Jesus and takes that understanding that each one of them would have and say, not only is building your house on the rock the best idea, it's the only way to live because anything else is going to end really poorly for us.

4:37.7

So Todd, what does it mean to build your house on the rock when it comes to your your life, your spiritual life?
