| 0:00.0 | The internet wants you to quit your job, and I actually would ask you to think first. |
| 0:05.1 | I have built companies worth hundreds of millions, and I have watched people with twice the town that I have |
| 0:10.6 | blow up their lives by quitting at the wrong time. |
| 0:13.6 | Here's how you can actually prepare. |
| 0:15.1 | Get one paying client or project in your target market before you quit. If you can do that and get 25% to 50% of your salary, then you have a really good buffer. And if you can't even get a dollar, then that's really good advice too, which is like, maybe you're not ready to quit. You should get a different job or continue to level up your skills. There's nothing wrong with that. If you're not ready to quit, or at least to leave employment and start a business, maybe you should quit into a better job. Quit into a job that builds the skills you're missing. Ask if there's opportunity to build the skills you're missing in the job you have now. I did that so many times. I did way more times than I did quit to build a business. I did that once. I did this probably seven times. Number three, you have a financial floor, not just like a dream in the skies. |
| 0:57.0 | Okay, when we launched our supplement company, which was the second company I launched based off my first one, |
| 1:03.0 | I let my leaders staff up based on projections from our previous business. |
| 1:08.0 | So I said, okay, based on my other business, this sounds dumb now that I say it, |
| 1:11.7 | based on a business that's completely different, |
| 1:13.3 | built a staffing model based on that business for this business and I will provide you with the people. So then we hired like 35 or 40 people before the launch. And then I actually had one of the customer support reps reach out to me and they were like, hey, can you hop on a call? I was like, yeah, I can hop on my call. |
| 1:26.1 | What's up? |
| 1:26.5 | I hop on. |
| 1:27.1 | I was like, oh, interesting, why is Sally reaching out to me? |
| 1:29.3 | And she was like, hey, I you hop on a call? I was like, yeah, I can hop on a call, what's up? I hop on, I was like, interesting, why is Sally reaching out to me? |
| 1:29.3 | And she was like, hey, I can't accept the paycheck from you. And I was like, why? She was like, I'm only answering one, maybe two emails a day. And I know like eight other people with no work in this company. Like, I just, I can't ethically take your money. |
| 1:42.1 | And I was like, is this a fucking joke? |
| 1:44.8 | So we had used the completely money. And I was like, is this a fucking joke? |
| 1:44.8 | So we had used the completely wrong model because I was ignorant and I'd let them do that. |
| 1:49.7 | And because of that, I had to lay off, like, I don't remember, it was between 15 and 25 people. |
| 1:54.0 | And my glass door went from like a 5 to like a 2.2 in like 5 seconds. |
| 1:58.8 | And now here's the part that's interesting. |
| 2:00.7 | I had a business with revenue |
